Quick summary (plain English)

  • We run ads through Mediavine to keep the site free. This involves cookies/identifiers and (where allowed) interest-based advertising. Mediavine’s required disclosure is included below and describes the data collected for personalized ads (including email in hashed form).
  • We use Amazon Associates and other affiliate links. When you click those links, third parties (like Amazon) may use cookies to track referrals.
  • If you subscribe to our newsletter (Ghost members), we store your email address and may measure email engagement (opens/clicks) to understand what readers find useful.
  • You can manage advertising and privacy choices using the Mediavine CMP controls (including the footer button labeled “DO NOT SELL OR SHARE MY PERSONAL INFORMATION”).

1) What information we collect

We collect information in three main ways: (A) information you provide, (B) information collected automatically, and (C) information from third parties.

A) Information you provide to us

Depending on what you do on the site, we may collect:

  • Newsletter/membership information (Ghost members): email address and (if you provide it) your name.
  • Messages you send us: if you email us or use a contact form, we receive the message content and your contact details.
  • Comments (if enabled): if you leave comments, we collect the comment content and associated metadata (such as timestamp and technical identifiers used for anti-spam and moderation).
  • Purchases (if we add them later): if we sell digital products or paid subscriptions in the future, we (and our payment processor) will process purchase-related information. We do not want or need your full card number; payments are typically handled by a third-party payment processor.

B) Information collected automatically

When you browse the site, certain data is commonly processed automatically, including:

  • Device and browser information: device type, operating system, browser type, language settings.
  • Log and usage information: pages viewed, approximate location (derived from IP address), referrer URL, and timestamps.
  • Advertising and measurement data: cookies and similar technologies used for ad delivery, ad measurement, and fraud prevention (details below).

C) Information from third parties

We may receive limited information from:

  • Advertising partners (Mediavine): reporting about ad performance (typically aggregated).
  • Affiliate partners (including Amazon): reporting about purchases attributed to our affiliate links (generally aggregated; we do not receive your payment details from Amazon).
  • Email delivery / newsletter infrastructure: technical signals needed to deliver email and measure deliverability/engagement.

At-a-glance categories (helpful for US privacy laws)

This table is a practical summary of the types of information involved on this site. (Details and choices are explained below.)

Category Examples Why we use it Shared for ads/measurement?
Identifiers email (newsletter), IP address, cookie IDs, device IDs newsletter delivery, site operations, advertising yes (via Mediavine, where applicable)
Internet/activity data pages viewed, interactions, referrer site analytics, content improvement, advertising measurement yes (via Mediavine, where applicable)
Approximate location city/state derived from IP regional content/ads, fraud prevention yes (via Mediavine, where applicable)
Commercial/affiliate data affiliate click/referral signals (aggregated) commission attribution shared with affiliate partners when you click links
Inferences inferred interests from pages you view content improvement and interest-based ads yes (via ad partners, where applicable)

We do not ask you to submit medical records or sensitive health information.

However, because we publish nutrition content, ad partners may infer interests from the pages you view (for example, “gluten-free” or “keto”). If you prefer not to have ads personalized this way, you can opt out of targeted advertising using the Mediavine CMP controls described in this policy.

2) Cookies, tracking, and similar technologies

We and our partners may use cookies, pixels, tags, and similar technologies (“tracking technologies”) for purposes such as:

  • running and measuring advertising (including interest-based ads, where permitted)
  • understanding how the site is used (analytics and performance)
  • preventing fraud and protecting the site
  • operating email/newsletter features (where applicable)

You can control cookies through your browser settings. In addition, you can control advertising preferences through our consent/opt-out tools described below (see “Your choices and rights”).

If you block cookies entirely, some parts of the site may not work as expected (for example, membership/login features).

If you are in a region where consent is required for certain cookies, our consent tools are designed to honor those requirements before non-essential technologies run.

In practice, the most direct way to manage ad-related choices on this site is the Mediavine preference center (see “Your choices and rights” below).

3) How we use your information

We use information for purposes such as:

  • Operating the site: providing content, keeping the site stable and secure, preventing abuse.
  • Newsletter delivery: sending emails you subscribed to and managing subscription preferences.
  • Measuring performance: understanding what content performs well and improving the site.
  • Advertising and monetization: displaying ads (Mediavine) and tracking affiliate referrals (Amazon Associates and other affiliates).
  • Communications: responding to your questions or requests.

4) Advertising (Mediavine) — required disclosure

We work with Mediavine to manage third-party interest-based advertising on the site. The following disclosure is provided by Mediavine and should appear as-is.

Mediavine Programmatic Advertising (Ver 1.1)

The Website works with Mediavine to manage third-party interest-based advertising appearing on the Website. Mediavine serves content and advertisements when you visit the Website, which may use first and third-party cookies. A cookie is a small text file which is sent to your computer or mobile device (referred to in this policy as a “device”) by the web server so that a website can remember some information about your browsing activity on the Website.

First party cookies are created by the website that you are visiting. A third-party cookie is frequently used in behavioral advertising and analytics and is created by a domain other than the website you are visiting. Third-party cookies, tags, pixels, beacons and other similar technologies (collectively, “Tags”) may be placed on the Website to monitor interaction with advertising content and to target and optimize advertising. Each internet browser has functionality so that you can block both first and third-party cookies and clear your browser’s cache. The "help" feature of the menu bar on most browsers will tell you how to stop accepting new cookies, how to receive notification of new cookies, how to disable existing cookies and how to clear your browser’s cache. For more information about cookies and how to disable them, you can consult the information at All About Cookies.

Without cookies you may not be able to take full advantage of the Website content and features. Please note that rejecting cookies does not mean that you will no longer see ads when you visit our Site. In the event you opt-out, you will still see non-personalized advertisements on the Website.

The Website collects the following data using a cookie when serving personalized ads:

  • IP Address
  • Operating System type
  • Operating System version
  • Device Type
  • Language of the website
  • Web browser type
  • Email (in hashed form)

Mediavine Partners (companies listed below with whom Mediavine shares data) may also use this data to link to other end user information the partner has independently collected to deliver targeted advertisements. Mediavine Partners may also separately collect data about end users from other sources, such as advertising IDs or pixels, and link that data to data collected from Mediavine publishers in order to provide interest-based advertising across your online experience, including devices, browsers and apps. This data includes usage data, cookie information, device information, information about interactions between users and advertisements and websites, geolocation data, traffic data, and information about a visitor’s referral source to a particular website. Mediavine Partners may also create unique IDs to create audience segments, which are used to provide targeted advertising.

If you would like more information about this practice and to know your choices to opt-in or opt-out of this data collection, please visit National Advertising Initiative opt out page. You may also visit Digital Advertising Alliance website and Network Advertising Initiative website to learn more information about interest-based advertising. You may download the AppChoices app at Digital Advertising Alliance’s AppChoices app to opt out in connection with mobile apps, or use the platform controls on your mobile device to opt out.

For specific information about Mediavine Partners, the data each collects and their data collection and privacy policies, please visit Mediavine Partners.

Some pages may contain affiliate links. If you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Amazon Associates

Blend of Bites is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

When you click an Amazon link, Amazon may place or recognize cookies or similar technologies to track referrals and attribute commissions.

We do not receive your payment card details, shipping address, or the identity of the purchaser from Amazon. Amazon’s own privacy notice applies to your activity on Amazon’s sites.

For more information about how we handle affiliate relationships, see: Affiliate Disclosure.

6) Email/newsletter (Ghost members)

If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address (and any optional information you provide) to send you emails.

Email engagement tracking

Our emails may include tracking technologies (such as a small pixel image and tracked links) that help us understand whether an email was opened and whether links were clicked. This helps us measure and improve our newsletter content.

You can unsubscribe at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email we send.

7) Sharing and disclosure of information

We may share information:

  • with service providers who help us operate the site and deliver emails (hosting, email delivery, security)
  • with advertising partners (Mediavine and its partners) to deliver and measure ads (see Mediavine disclosure above)
  • with affiliate partners when you click affiliate links (e.g., Amazon)
  • if required by law, or to protect rights, safety, and security
  • in connection with a business transaction (for example, a merger, acquisition, or asset sale), where permitted by law

We do not sell personal information in the ordinary “list for cash” sense. However, some privacy laws define “sale” and “sharing” broadly to include certain advertising-related disclosures for cross-context behavioral advertising. See “Your choices and rights” below.

Key third parties (high-level)

The exact vendors may change over time, but these are the key parties involved in our core operations and monetization:

  • Ghost (CMS/newsletter hosting): we use Ghost to publish content and manage newsletter subscriptions (members).
  • Mediavine (advertising + consent/opt-out controls): Mediavine manages programmatic advertising and provides the consent/opt-out tools referenced in this policy.
  • Mediavine Grow (if enabled): we may use Grow features (for example, sharing or recommendation widgets) which may set cookies or similar technologies.
  • Amazon (affiliate links): if you click an Amazon affiliate link, Amazon may collect information directly and place or recognize cookies/identifiers, subject to Amazon’s policies.
  • Pinterest (tag/pixel): we may use Pinterest’s tag/pixel to measure site activity related to Pinterest and improve performance.
  • Meta (Facebook/Instagram pixel): we may use Meta’s pixel for measurement and retargeting, where applicable.
  • Google (GA4/GTM and Google Ads retargeting): we may use Google analytics/advertising tools for measurement and marketing, where applicable.
  • Payment processors (if applicable later): if we offer paid products/subscriptions in the future, a payment processor (such as Stripe) will process payments.

If we use these tools, we configure them to respect applicable consent/opt-out requirements and the choices you make in our consent tools (where supported).

Our pages may include links to other websites or embedded content (for example, videos or social media embeds). Those third parties may collect information about you according to their own privacy policies.

8) Your choices and rights

A) Advertising choices (including “Do Not Sell or Share” / opt-out of targeted advertising)

You can manage advertising-related choices through our Mediavine consent/opt-out tools.

  • On our site, look for the footer button labeled: “DO NOT SELL OR SHARE MY PERSONAL INFORMATION”.
  • Use those controls to manage consent and opt-out choices available to you.

If you use a browser or extension that sends a recognized opt-out signal (such as Global Privacy Control), we will treat it as an opt-out signal where required by applicable law and supported by our consent tools.

B) Newsletter choices

You can unsubscribe from emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in our emails.

C) Access, deletion, and correction requests

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, or deletion of certain personal information we hold about you (for example, your newsletter/member record).

To make a request, contact us at: privacy@blendofbites.com with the subject line: “Privacy Request”.

To protect your privacy, we may need to verify your request (for example, by confirming control of the email address on the member record).

We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. In some cases, we may need additional time where permitted (for example, to verify your request or complete a deletion safely).

As a practical guideline, we generally respond:

  • within 45 days for most US privacy requests (and we may extend where permitted), and
  • within one month for GDPR/UK GDPR requests (and we may extend where permitted).

D) US state privacy rights (summary)

If you are a resident of certain US states, you may have rights to:

  • request access to certain personal information we hold about you
  • request deletion of certain personal information
  • request correction of inaccurate personal information
  • opt out of targeted advertising and certain data sharing associated with advertising
  • in some states, limit certain uses of “sensitive” personal information (where applicable)

We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights. If we deny a request, some states provide a right to appeal; you can contact us to appeal our decision.

D.0) Appeals (certain US states)

If you want to appeal a denied request, email privacy@blendofbites.com with the subject line: “Privacy Appeal” and describe the request and why you believe it should be granted. We will review and respond within a reasonable timeframe.

D.1) Authorized agents (certain US states)

In some jurisdictions, you may use an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf. We may require proof that you gave the agent permission and may also ask you to verify your identity directly.

E) EEA/UK/Switzerland (GDPR/UK GDPR) rights (summary)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you may have rights including:

  • access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, and data portability (where applicable)
  • withdrawing consent where processing is based on consent
  • lodging a complaint with your local data protection authority

9) International visitors and cross-border transfers

If you access the site from outside the United States, your information may be processed in countries where we or our service providers operate. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers.

10) Data retention

We keep information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including:

  • maintaining your newsletter subscription until you unsubscribe
  • keeping security logs for a limited period
  • maintaining records as required by law (for example, accounting records if we later sell products)

11) Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect information. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

12) Children’s privacy

Our site is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page when we make changes.
