What is the alkaline diet?
The alkaline diet is based mostly on avoiding animal products and instead opting for natural sources of food; like fruits, fats, and nuts.
What are its claimed benefits?
It is claimed that the alkaline diet can help fight against medical conditions like cancer and diabetes while helping you maintain a healthy body.
The digestion process
Each food you eat will leave a trace in your body after digestion. The traces that are produced after this chemical reaction are called “metabolic waste”.
There are basically three types of metabolic waste. They are either alkaline, acidic, or neutral; with varying degrees of harm to your body.
Are they harmful?
The proponents of the alkaline diet claim that the acidic waste is a toxin that degrades your health, after mixing in your blood, while the alkaline waste is healthy for your body.
Let’s take a look!
Each food we consume leaves different kinds of metabolic waste. Let’s take a look at them together:
Most animal products like meat, fish, eggs, and dairy leave acidic waste in your body. It is claimed that acidic waste makes you more vulnerable to diseases.
Alkaline waste is produced mostly by fruits, nuts and seeds, and healthy fats. These foods alkalize your body and improve your overall health.
Sugars, natural fats, and starches leave behind neutral waste. They are not particularly healthy or damaging to your body.
How to know if your blood is alkaline
You can measure the pH levels of your urine. The pH levels define how acidic or alkaline a product is. While pH levels between 0-6.9 are acidic, pH levels between 7.1-14.0 mean it is alkaline. 7.0 is neutral.
Consult a professional
The claimed benefits of the alkaline diet are not scientifically proven yet! This diet requires a serious change in your eating habits, so consult a professional beforehand.
The alkaline diet requires you to choose natural sources instead of animal products. It requires a dramatic change in your consumption habits and might affect your body if not treated carefully.
