Who said making moonshine can’t be easy? The warmth and the flavor of your favorite apple pie combined with strong Everclear — all ready in an hour.

Even though there are different variations of the apple pie moonshine mash recipe, we stick to the simplest one. Ours doesn’t require illegally distilled alcohol or illegally bought moonshine. Keep in mind that distilling alcohol requires a state permit. So, keep this in mind when you make variations of the recipe.

    Instructions

    1. Fill a large stock pot with enough water and bring it to a boil.
    1. Add all your ingredients into the pot, except for Everclear.
    1. Let it simmer for about an hour, covered.
    1. Once that is done, remove it from the heat. Let the mixture cool to room temperature.
    1. Follow by adding the Everclear to the mixture, and stir well.
    1. Pour the mixture into mason jars after straining the cinnamon sticks.
    1. Transfer the jars to a dry, cool, and preferably dark place.
    1. Give your apple moonshine mash between 8-10 weeks to mature.

    Substitutions

    • Apple cider — Although you are likely to find apple cider in most stores, it might be costly. Feel free to make your own apple cider if you have the resources and the time for it.
    • The spices — This apple moonshine mash recipe comes with a spicy variation, which is as good as the original one. If you don’t have ground nutmeg or ground cinnamon, you can easily get away with using allspice.

    Variations

    • Spicy — If you’d like to have your apple mash a bit spicy, feel free to add half a tablespoon of ground nutmeg and ground cinnamon into the mix.
    • Peachy — If apples are not your thing, you could easily go with peaches instead. Peach juice and peach schnapps make a fine substitution for apple juice and apple cider. While you’re at it, why not add some sliced fresh peaches into the mix?

    Equipment

    • Measuring cups
    • Large stockpot
    • Mason jars with lids
    • Strainer

    Storage

    • Once you’ve transferred the mixture into the jars, your apple moonshine will last for two years at the most.
    • Make sure to store the jars in a cool, dark place.
    • Keep in mind that opening the jars will likely result in a change in flavor.

    Pro Tips

    • The alcohol — Since Everclear is considered to be flammable, make sure that the cooked mixture has completely cooled before adding it to the mix.
    • The jars — You don’t really need a bunch of fancy cans. As long as your jars are clean and you have the lids, you will be fine.
    • The sticks — If the cinnamon sticks sound like some extra work, you can always skip those, especially if you will already be using ground cinnamon. The same goes for ground nutmeg as well.
