It’s hard to come by a quality dipping sauce these days. Our avocado crema recipe has a texture smoother than guacamole sauce, and is deliciously paired with pretty much anything, be it fajitas, quesadillas, or any kind of meat or fish. Although it is heavily inspired by Mexican cream, our avocado crema recipe goes well with either Mexican or Southwestern cuisine.

Creamy, smooth, and velvet. If we were asked to define this avocado crema recipe, that would be our short, but on-point answer. You also get to be creative, as you have plenty of options when it comes to seasoning. This recipe is beginner-friendly, with only four main ingredients. Simply combine the ingredients in a blender and the rest follows, with approximately five minutes of prep time.

    1. Combine the avocados, Greek yogurt or sour cream, lime juice, and garlic in a blender or a food processor.
    1. Blend it until the mixture is smooth enough without any lumps.
    1. Season with salt and pepper.
    1. Transfer the cream to a jar or container with a lid.
    1. Garnish with cumin (optional).

    Storage

    • You can store your avocado crema in a mason jar for 2-5 days in the fridge.

    Equipment

    • Blender or food processor.
    • Mason jar.

    Tips

    • Choosing the right avocado — The choice of avocado could make or break this avocado crema recipe. A medium avocado will do the job perfectly. If it's too large or not ripe enough, you could have lumps. Also, ripe avocados will blend much more easily, not to mention that the taste will be much better.
    • Sour cream and Greek yogurt — One of the things that make our avocado crema recipe so versatile is that you get to pick how you make it. While sour cream is the more common option, if you’d like your sauce lighter, we recommend going with Greek yogurt. The two have a similar taste, and both would make your avocado crema delicious. If you opt for yogurt, avoid regular yogurt. It’s not as thick as Greek yogurt, which would disturb the texture of your avocado crema.
