Substitutions
- Coconut milk — We think that coconut milk is the secret ingredient in this Bahama mama tropical smoothie recipe. While coconut water works well, if what you’re looking for is a lighter alternative, you can use any kind of milk. Heavy cream is another substitute for coconut milk. But there is no doubt that your smoothie’s texture will improve and it will be even fluffier! Another viable option would be Greek yogurt. It’s not only delicious and creamy, but it’s also full of protein. Soy milk and almond milk work great too, and they are also dairy-free, just like coconut milk.
- Coconut chunks — Coconut chunks, as a garnish, compliments the coconut flavor milk in this Bahama mama tropical smoothie recipe, but they are certainly replaceable. Feel free to use any kind of frozen fruit as a garnish.
- White chocolate chips — These are great, and they fit well in a blender but feel free to swap them for white chocolate syrup if you’re short on chips. Just remember that the white chocolate is what makes this Bahama mama tropical smoothie recipe special.
Variations
- Dairy-free — Just because you follow a dairy-free diet, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t enjoy this heavenly Bahama mama tropical smoothie. The problem is that white chocolate chips, unlike dark chocolate, contain milk. Try looking for dairy-free white chocolate chips. Obviously, coconut milk is already dairy-free, so no worries.
- Sweetened — There are different Bahama mama tropical smoothie recipes out there, and you might’ve noticed that some include added sweeteners, most noticeably agave nectar. Though we don’t recommend using sweeteners, if you’re feeling like having a sugar crash, go ahead and add between 1-2 tbsp. agave nectar or maple syrup.
Equipment
- Measuring spoons and cups.
- Blender.
- Smoothie cups.
Storage
- Store any leftovers in a jar or an airtight container in your fridge for 1-3 days.
- We recommend blending the smoothie again before consuming it.
Tips
- Pulse — Depending on your blender or how frozen the fruit you use, you might have to pulse the ingredients to achieve a perfectly smooth texture.
- The fruits — When it comes to fruits, you can either go with frozen ones or use fresh ones. Keep in mind that using fresh fruits will result in a more dominant fruit taste. If you’d rather feel the taste of fruits instead of coconut, go with the fresh ones.
- Not too strong? — If all the talk about fresh fruits and milk made you feel like a responsible adult, feel free to add a splash of rum into your Bahama mama tropical smoothie to get rid of that feeling immediately.
