Substitutions
- Chocolate chips — Well, when it comes to baking delicious cookies, what’s better than some classic chocolate chips? The popular ingredient not only helps with the flavor, but your cookies also end up with a much better texture! Still, if you’d prefer to make a substitute, try cocoa powder, although your cookies will have a noticeably different texture. Butterscotch chips, on the other hand, are sweet, tasty, delicious, and would make a fine alternative to chocolate chips. You could also consider using chopped chocolate and chocolate bars if you want to keep the chocolate taste.
- Agave syrup — Our Heavenly Hunks recipe, or oatmeal dark chocolate cookies recipe, admittedly needs some sweetness to balance the complex flavors in it. And that's exactly what agave syrup, a popular sweetener, provides. It’s fairly similar to honey, both in terms of flavor and texture. Some alternatives include coconut nectar, maple syrup, and blackstrap molasses.
- Coconut oil — The original Heavenly Hunks recipe calls for coconut oil, but it might not be everyone’s first choice, and there are some possible health problems related to it. Avocado oil, for example, would make a fine substitute. It has a low smoke point, it’s healthy, and it’s accessible. You could also use butter, which might be even better when it comes to baking.
Variations
- Peanut butter — This copycat Heavenly Hunks recipe comes with variations. Perhaps the most popular one is the peanut butter cookies. After all, who doesn’t like peanut butter? All you need to do is add some good quality peanut butter to the batter, and you’re all set! Your Heavenly Hunks will be nutty and tastier than ever.
- M&M cookies — Get your favorite M&M’s, (or other candies, if you’d like) swiftly stir them in, and you are all set! Your Heavenly Hunks will end up being so crunchy and colorful, not to mention tasty.

- Measuring spoons and cups.
- Blender.

Juanita says
We subbed coconut nectar for agave, used sugar free chocolate chips, and added about .5 tsp of vanilla powder. The next time around, I would add a little less salt. Nevertheless, they are excellent. Quick and easy to mix up and delicious!
