Sometimes all we need is a well-made margarita, especially on those lazy and sunny days. While you can’t go wrong with any kind of margarita, this Hennessy margarita recipe feels like a fresh breath of air.
Well, it is probably safe to say that Hennessy makes everything a bit better. Combine it with your standard margarita, and the world will seem alive with possibility.

- Salt — ½ tsp.

Substitutions
- Triple sec — The original Hennessy margarita recipe calls for triple sec, which balances the taste of lemon and tequila. But it’s not your only option. Grand Marnier is as close as it gets to triple sec with a rich flavor profile. We’ve also made this Hennessy margarita recipe using Cointreau instead, and the results were fairly good.
- Tequila — Even though it is the most iconic ingredient in any margarita, if tequila is not your cup of tea, you can easily replace it with rum. At least that’s what we did, and it turned out to be perfect. Vodka will work just fine as well, although the flavor will be different.
- Granulated sugar — Let’s start by clarifying that sugar, although a common ingredient in margaritas, could easily be replaced in this Hennessy margarita recipe. If, however, you are looking for something else, the sweet and sour mix would fit in perfectly.
Variations
- Fruity — This is the fun part. If the Hennessy margarita recipe is a tad dull for you, you can always add some fruit to the mix. While strawberry is a commonly used fruit in most margaritas, peach will be just fine too. Feel free to opt for other fruit like pineapples and mango. Simply blend the fruit of your choice with the rest of our ingredients, and you should be good to go!
- PG-13 — We’ve also made this recipe alcohol-free. You can start by replacing triple sec with grenadine, which doesn’t contain any alcohol. Don’t forget to add some orange juice to the mix as well. Also, omit the tequila and the Hennessy.
- Lime wedge — While there is nothing wrong with lime wedges, feel free to use cherries, orange peel, or maybe even pineapple wedges if you’re after something fresh.

- While this Hennessy margarita recipe is made for immediate consumption, it can also be stored.
- Transfer the leftover margarita to an airtight container and make sure that it’s tightly sealed. Once stored in your fridge, the leftovers will last for two days at the most.
Pro Tips
- Make it stronger — While our Hennessy margarita recipe is adjusted to perfection if you are after a stronger drink, feel free to use more alcohol. We’d also recommend omitting the sugar entirely.
- Omit the salt — Salt pairs incredibly well with tequila, so it’s no surprise that we’ve also used it in our Hennessy margarita recipe. Still, if you’re one of those strong people who don’t need it, feel free to omit it completely.
