A unique fusion of Italian and American cuisine, this pizza burger pie recipe combines everything you love about fast food. We used store-bought pizza dough, but you can always make your own. The same goes for the hamburger part too. While the classic ground beef formula works well enough, you can always customize it according to your taste. This pizza burger pie recipe calls for your basic, everyday pantry staples. Let’s take a look.

Substitutions
- Ground beef — We took the liberty of replacing ground beef with ground turkey. It was just as delicious. You can also get away with using ground chicken, and ground pork too.
- Italian seasoning — Italian seasoning is perfect for marinating your hamburger, but it could be easily replaced. You can use herbs and spices like basil, oregano, sage, and rosemary. If those are a bit too much for you, feel free to omit Italian seasoning as well. Salt and black pepper just might be enough for you.
- Tomato paste — Although tomato paste is probably your best option, tomato puree would be fine as well, but you will need to add some water into the mix since the latter has a thicker consistency.
- Pepperoni — Your average pizza burger pie recipe calls for pepperoni, a common ingredient. Still, feel free to replace pepperoni with sliced ham. At least that’s what we did, and we were pretty satisfied with the results.
Variations
- Make it Hawaiian — Well, ‘tropical’ wouldn’t be the result you would get from the classic pizza burger pie recipe. But that could change easily by adding some pineapple and BBQ sauce to the mix. Nothing fancy, just some grilled pineapple pieces and a tablespoon of BBQ sauce should get the job done.
- Make it vegan — This pizza burger pie recipe could also be made vegan with some simple changes. Ground beef should make way for tofu, the vegan superfood. Also, make sure that your pizza dough is vegan, that shouldn’t be a problem since that should be easy to find. Replace the cheese with mushrooms, and get yourself some vegan pepperoni. It’s as delicious as the original!

Pro Tips
- Season it — Seasoning is maybe the most important step of this pizza burger pie recipe. Make sure to marinate your hamburger for at least 10 minutes, and feel free to use more ingredients if you feel like it.
- Garnish it — You know what they say. Garnishing makes the dish great. Adding some fresh herbs is never a bad idea, as is the sauce of your preference.
