Substitutions
- Sweet and sour mix — Let’s start by saying that you can make your own sweet and sour mix at home if you don’t want to pay for it. A mix of water, lemon juice, granulated sugar, and lime juice will suffice, with one cup of each. Combine the sugar and water in a pan, and boil until the former dissolves. Once it has cooled off, transfer it to a jar and add lime juice and lemon juice. Stir well, and let it chill for a few hours.
You can also use fresh citrus, and make sure to mix it with a sweetener.
- Grenadine — Grenadine will not add some sweetness, but it will also provide some much-needed flair, thanks to its iconic red color. If you’re looking for a substitute for Grenadine, pomegranate juice is great. The red color is still there, and you won’t be lacking much when it comes to flavor. Cherry juice, cranberry juice, or raspberry syrup are viable alternatives too.
- Simple syrup — This strawberry Hennessy recipe desperately needs some simple syrup to balance out the tartness that comes with the other ingredients. Still, you could do fine with a healthier alternative. Natural sweeteners like honey, maple syrup and agave syrup will work out great, providing some sweet taste.
Variations
- Herbal — If you’re feeling conscious about the alcohol in that strawberry Hennessy, you might want to add some fresh, herbal flavor into the mix. A few basil leaves will do the job.
- Fruity — We’re pretty sure that strawberry is enough on its own, but if you want your strawberry Hennessy a bit meatier, try to pair strawberry with peach, and if you think some tropical flavor will be good, consider going with a mango.
Equipment
- Cocktail shaker.
- Cocktail jigger.
- Cocktail glasses.
- Blender.
Storage
- Transfer any leftover cocktail to a sealable container and store it in your fridge for a night or two.

Tips
- The fruit — The most important tip to making any cocktail is to use fresh and high-quality ingredients. Don’t go cheap out on the strawberries.
- The ratio — If you find that it’s a bit strong for you to handle, feel free to adjust the alcohol accordingly. On the other hand, if it’s a bit weak for you, increase the alcohol.
