Equipment

  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Mixing bowl
  • Baking tray
  • Oven

Ingredients

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 cup water warm
  • 4 tbsp. butter
  • 2 tbsp. oil
  • 1 tbsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. sugar

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
  • Combine flour, salt, oil, and sugar in a mixing bowl.
  • Stir well until combined.
  • Follow by adding the warm water slowly.
  • Once you have a firm dough, knead it to give your dough an oval shape.
  • Divide the dough into 6 equal parts.
  • Cover and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  • Place the dough parts on your work counter and apply pressure from the top to each one, using your hands. They should be about 15 centimeters in diameter.
  • Grease one ball with butter, and put another one on top of the former.
  • Repeat until you’re out of dough.
  • Transfer the combined balls to a baking tray and cover.
  • Rest for one and a half hours.
  • Press the edges and form a rectangular shape.
  • Bake for about 30 minutes.

Notes

  • Make ahead — You can always prepare and shape the dough beforehand and store it in your refrigerator for a day or two. When the time comes, you can simply put the dough in the oven.

  • Serve properly — Boyoz bread makes a fine breakfast food, but it can always get better when paired with other items. Turkish tea, to begin with, makes a fine authentic experience, while jam, peanut butter, and chocolate would only improve things.
