    Substitutions

    • Almond flour — One of the main aspects of Keto Twins’ chaffle recipe is, being keto and low-carb. Hence it is crucial to use keto-friendly flour. While almond flour works well enough, we have also tried this recipe using coconut flour. The results? Simply perfect. You can also use chia flour, too.
    • Mozzarella cheese — Keto Twins’ chaffle recipe calls for mozzarella cheese, but there are other options. We gave shredded cheddar cheese a go and were delighted with the results. Parmesan cheese or Swiss cheese are both fine options.
    • Baking powder — Contrary to the common opinion, baking soda, and baking powder can’t be used interchangeably. Well, you could do that, but the results would be different. Still, if you would be okay with a slight change in texture, feel free to opt for baking soda instead.

    Variations

    • Make it savory — Keto Twins’ chaffle recipe is a fairly basic one, leaving room for you to play around with the ingredients. For our savory variation of the recipe. add a clove of minced garlic to your batter.
    • Make it spicy — Our take on Keto Twins’ chaffle recipe was a bit different, one that included a teaspoon of Italian seasoning. Simply add it to the batter and go along with the rest. If Italian seasoning is not an option, use a combination of different ingredients like thyme, sage, and rosemary.
    • Add some toppings — Just because Keto Twins’ chaffle recipe is a low-carb one, it doesn’t mean that you can’t have any toppings. Just make sure that the toppings are keto or low-carb. Some fresh fruit like cherries would work well, or you can sprinkle some cinnamon on top.

    Storage

    • Refrigerate — This one will work if you’re planning to get rid of the leftovers in the next 2-3 days. Simply transfer the leftovers to an airtight container and store them in your fridge.
    • Freeze — Freezing the leftovers would be a good way if you’re planning to enjoy them for longer. Transfer the leftovers to a container and store them in your freezer. They will last for up to two months.

    Pro Tips

    • Grease the iron — This one might go without saying, but it is important to grease your waffle iron, or you will probably have a mess on your hands. You can use cooking spray or brush the iron with oil or butter.
    • Have patience — One of the common mistakes when it comes to making a proper chaffle is that, due to the moisture, or, more specifically, the lack of it, the chaffle tends to break apart in the process. Let the waffle machine do its job and give it at least five full minutes before opening it.
