When dealing with meat, the quality of the seasoning sets the bar for your dish. McCormick’s meatloaf seasoning recipe can make an otherwise average dish great.

The ingredients are common and the instructions are easy to follow. Considering the brand, that doesn’t come as a surprise. What’s surprising, however, is the lack of a quality homemade seasoning recipe. Perhaps that’s what makes this copycat McCormick’s meatloaf seasoning recipe so distinct. It’s one for the ages. Instructions

    1. Add all the ingredients to a mixing bowl.
    1. Give the mixture a good mix until combined. There should be no lumps.
    1. Transfer the mixture to an airtight container.

    Substitutions

    • Basil — This staple ingredient in most spice mixes provides a sweet flavor with some hints of mint. But fresh basil could be hard to find, and in that case, you will be just fine with using oregano. Cilantro or mint are great too.
    • Paprika — You have quite a few options if you are looking to replace paprika. Cayenne pepper is generally seen as the ideal replacement for this one, although keep in mind that it could be a bit spicier. Chili flakes and chili powder are other great alternatives.
    • Dried thyme — Similar to basil, dried thyme is another common seasoning ingredient and it provides a great deal of flavor to McCormick’s meatloaf seasoning recipe. Fresh thyme would probably be the closest you can get but keep in mind that you should use three times what you would normally use. Italian seasoning and parsley would work great as well.

    Variations

    • Spicy — If you’d like to spice things up by increasing the heat, consider adding some red flakes to the mix. Nothing much, just a teaspoon would be enough.
    • Earthy — If you are up to experimenting, you could always consider adding some earthy flavors to your meatloaf seasoning. Even though you will be losing out on some distinct taste, try using turmeric instead of dried mustard for an earthy, somewhat sweet taste.
