Combine the Maseca with salt and hot water in a large mixing bowl.
Using your hands, mix together and form the dough into 8-9 equal-sized balls.
Flatten the balls using a tortilla press.
Heat some oil in a skillet.
Fry the gorditas, one at a time, frying on both sides.
Once both sides are golden brown, which should take about 3 minutes or so per side, remove from the heat and place on top of paper towels to drain.
Repeat until you are out of dough.

Too soggy? — If you realized that your dough has ended up somewhat soggy, simply add some more flour to the mix to solve the problem.
Too dry? — A dry dough is a common pitfall, but it should be okay if you realize it soon enough. Simply add some more hot water to the mix, and you should be okay.
