Popcorn Sutton. Now that’s a true country legend. The famous moonshiner lived and died as he pleased, and his moonshines were the most infamous ones. Though he didn’t share his family recipe, this copycat one works well. And the good part? Unlike him, you can legally make your moonshine. There is no denying the Popcorn Sutton moonshine recipe works incredibly well; it’s sharp, tangy, and strong. Consume in moderation!

Ingredients
- Corn whiskey — 1 quart, or 32 oz.
- Apple concentrate — 3 cans, frozen.
- Cinnamon sticks — 7 pcs.
- Brown sugar — 1 ½ cups.
Instructions
- Combine the cinnamon sticks, brown sugar, and apple concentrate in a skillet.
- On low heat, stir occasionally while the sugar dissolves.
- Bring it to a boil, and let it simmer for half an hour.
- Remove from the heat and let the mixture cool completely.
- Transfer the now-cooled mixture equally into pint jars.
- Top the pint jars with corn whiskey.
Substitutions
- Corn whiskey — Unlike your typical moonshine, corn whiskey is legally available in the US. So even if you won’t be using corn whiskey and are looking for an alternative, Everclear fits the description. Keep in mind that the alcohol volume for Everclear ranges from 60% to 95%, so it’ll probably kick pretty strong.
- Cinnamon sticks — We speak from experience when we say that cinnamon sticks are just the right tool for this Popcorn Sutton moonshine recipe. Ground cinnamon is a great alternative. For every cinnamon stick, you can use ½ tsp. ground cinnamon. In our Popcorn Sutton apple pie moonshine recipe, this roughly equals 3 ½ tsp. or 1 ⅓ tbsp.
- Brown sugar — Replacing the brown sugar is not a great idea. There are three kinds of brown sugar; light brown sugar, regular brown sugar, and dark brown sugar. If you’d rather have your moonshine sharper and stronger, we’d recommend going with dark brown sugar.
Variations
- Spicy — Though cinnamon is a must, you don’t have to stop there, especially if you’d rather have a richer, deeper, layered flavor in your Popcorn Sutton apple pie moonshine. Allspice and nutmeg will do just that.
Equipment
- Skillet.
- Measuring spoons and cups.
- Pint jars.
Storage
Popcorn Sutton moonshine should be stored properly, such as:
- Store the Popcorn Sutton apple pie moonshine in a dark, cool place.
- You can also store it in your refrigerator.
- You can use a glass jar, moonshine bottle, plastic bottle, or moonshine container.
Tips
- The sugar — Feel free to adjust the amount of brown sugar according to your preferences, but 2 cups should be the limit.
- The proof — When it comes to making a Popcorn Sutton moonshine, you should make sure that it’ll be strong enough. You can always go for a cocktail, so why bother making this legendary drink if not for a strong taste? For that, you should go for a corn whiskey with at least 100 proofs. Keep in mind that the ideal is 150 proofs.
- Safety first — If you’re going with at least 100-proof alcohol, remember that it is sensitive to fire. To prevent any fires, keep it away from any heat source.
