    Ingredients

    • Salt — ½ tsp.
    • All-purpose flour — 1 tbsp.
    • Garlic powder — ¼ tsp.
    • Butter — 2 tsp.

    Instructions

    1. Add the ground beef, salt, onion salt, and black pepper into a bowl. Mix them well to form a meat mixture.
    1. Make four round patties with the mixture.
    1. Take a cast iron skillet and heat it to medium flame. Cook the steaks for four minutes or until the color changes to brown on both sides.
    1. Set the steaks aside.
    1. In the same skillet, cook the onion until it becomes soft.
    1. Take the onion out and set it aside. Add 1 tbsp. of butter to the skillet.
    1. Add the flour, garlic powder, and beef broth. Cook for one minute to make a smooth texture.
    1. Add onions to the gravy and cook for an additional minute.
    1. Serve the steaks with thick and smooth onion gravy on top.

    Substitutions

    • Butter — Butter gives the extra taste to the onion gravy but if you want to avoid using it or don't have it at the moment, then any oil like vegetable or olive oil works perfectly with the recipe.
    • All-purpose flour — All-purpose flour gives the onion gravy the perfect texture and smoothness. If you want to avoid starch, you can add vegetables of your choice to give the gravy a thick and smooth texture. Potato starch or cornstarch are good substitutes for all-purpose flour.
    • Beef broth — Beef broth gives the steaks a juicy and flavorful full taste, but if you do not have it, try chicken or even vegetables. I would recommend you use beef broth to have the same authentic taste, though.

    Variations

    • BBQ hamburger steak — Coat your steak with BBQ sauce before cooking. Then top it with chopped red onion and cilantro.
    • Onion and mushroom hamburger steak — To add extra flavor to the meal, sauté some mushrooms and add them while cooking the gravy.
