Substitutions
- Salsa — Salsa, without a trace of doubt, greatly improves Pampered Chef’s taco ring recipe, so we’d recommend sticking to it. If you find yourself short on salsa, marinara sauce makes a great alternative. Chipotle hot sauce works well, and tomato paste could be used as well, though the consistency will be different.
- Taco seasoning mix — No dish is complete without proper seasoning. If you’re short on taco seasoning mix, you can try to make your own using chili powder, paprika, oregano, cumin, garlic powder, and onion powder. Or you can simply use chili powder.
- Sour cream — A fairly common ingredient in most taco recipes, sour cream helps balance the acidity of the other ingredients, all the while providing a distinct flavor. You could also use a mix of heavy cream and lemon juice. Greek yogurt and plain yogurt work great too.
Variations
- Try poultry — Although taco is traditionally made with ground beef, there is no rule that states you should only use red meat. Feel free to go with ground chicken, ground turkey, or ground pork.
- Try shrimp — Similar to the variation above, this one relies on substituting ground meat with seafood. A pound of deveined and peeled shrimp is enough to make this one. Simply brown it in a pan and follow the instructions.

- Mixing bowl
- Large pan
- Round pan
- Oven
Storage
- Transfer the leftovers to an airtight container and seal it tightly.
- Once stored in your fridge, the leftovers will last for three days.
Pro Tips
- Ground beef — We recommend using lean ground beef, to prevent the excess fat from making a mess. Ideally, you’d want to stick to the 80/20 ratio when purchasing ground beef.
- The toppings — Pampered Chef’s taco ring recipe calls for various topping ingredients, and that’s part of what makes this recipe so great. Keep in mind that too much salsa and sour cream will just make your taco soggy, so be cautious.
