    1. Transfer the combined balls to a baking tray and cover.
    1. Rest for one and a half hours.
    1. Press the edges and form a rectangular shape.
    1. Bake for about 30 minutes.

    Substitutions

    • Flour — The equation is fairly simple. Using high-protein flour means your bread will be fluffier, lighter, and chewy. Bread flour is ideal, but if you’re short on it, all-purpose flour won’t let you down.
    • Oil — In Turkey, most boyoz bread is made using sunflower oil. As boyoz bread is a popular street food, sunflower oil is the cheapest and most accessible oil. You could get away with using any other type of oil.
    • Sugar — Traditional boyoz bread recipe calls for granulated sugar. So, we recommend sticking with it and not substituting it with brown sugar.

    Variations

    • Meaty — A classic boyoz bread is usually empty on the inside and supported by other breakfast food. If you are craving something meatier, you can always add ground meat, ground chicken, or ground turkey to the mix. Although that will resemble börek, another classic Turkish food, it will be even more delicious.
    • Cheesy — Adding some shredded cheese into the mix will only make things better. Cheddar, mozzarella, or maybe even classical American cheese will work just fine. As long as it melts easily and quickly, you can use any kind of cheese.

    • Mixing bowl
    • Baking tray
    • Oven

    Storage and Reheating

    • You can safely store the leftover boyoz bread at room temperature, covered.
    • It will likely last for up to a week at most. It is better though when it’s fresh.
    • You can reheat your leftover boyoz bread on the stovetop.

    Pro Tips

    • Make ahead — You can always prepare and shape the dough beforehand and store it in your refrigerator for a day or two. When the time comes, you can simply put the dough in the oven.
    • Serve properly — Boyoz bread makes a fine breakfast food, but it can always get better when paired with other items. Turkish tea, to begin with, makes a fine authentic experience, while jam, peanut butter, and chocolate would only improve things.
