Dandelion flowers have this ability to survive and adapt, popping up anywhere, be it your backyard or empty land. Dandelion has also been a staple herb in traditional medicine for years, and it has been increasingly commercialized thanks to the rising popularity of supplements and herbal teas. Though not as popular or commercialized as other items, dandelion tincture or dandelion extract, has been widely used to improve the digestive system. What separates our dandelion extract recipe from the supplements is that you know all the ingredients, as you are the one making it.

Commonly used to reduce gout symptoms and get rid of heartburn and gas, the dandelion tincture is believed to be beneficial for your liver and kidney. Our dandelion tincture recipe is easy to make, as the ingredients consist of vodka and dandelion flowers. Dandelion extract also makes a great excuse for those vodka bottles lying in your home.

Though you need to wait at least two months before consuming the tincture, we promise that it’s worth the wait. While some people prefer using only the roots of the flower and saving the leaves for a delicious, fresh salad, you can also use the flowers.

    Dandelion extract recipe: FAQs

    1. Is dandelion tincture healthy?

Dandelion flowers are nutritionally rich, with an abundant amount of potassium and calcium. The flower also contains healthy antioxidants, with the most prominent one being beta-carotene, known for aiding the cognitive system. There are also claims that it regulates your blood sugar levels and reduces inflammation, though the studies are limited and require further work. But more importantly, the FDA recognizes the usage of dandelion supplements and herbal teas as safe.

However, keep in mind that dandelion flowers might potentially cause allergic reactions, thus make sure that you consult a medical professional before consuming any kind of supplement, herbal tea, or our dandelion extract recipe.

    2. What if you don’t want to use vodka?

Almost every tincture recipe utilizes alcohol as an extractor and preservative. However, not everyone might be comfortable with using alcohol, either because of its taste or its effect on the body. If that is the case, we recommend using glycerin or vinegar as a substitute for vodka. Going with apple cider or distilled white vinegar is always a safe bet.
We should mention that with the lack of alcohol, your dandelion tincture won’t be as durable as it could be.

    Disclaimer

Although there are many claimed health benefits of dandelion flowers, not all of them are proven and you should do your research before consuming any dandelion extract, supplement or herbal tea. We do not provide medical advice, and we do recommend getting your facts right from a trusted source.
