    Instructions

    1. Peel and devein the shrimp. Rinse with cold water.
    1. Carefully slice the shrimp into 1-inch pieces.
    1. Swiftly season the shrimp with Old Bay seasoning and onion powder. Let it sit for a bit.
    1. Heat the cooking oil in a skillet. Add half of the cilantro, tomatoes, and chopped onion.
    1. Add the shrimp and mix well. Stir occasionally to prevent burning, and flip the shrimp every once in a while to make sure both sides are cooked.
    1. Cook until the shrimp turns golden, which should take a few minutes.
    1. Remove it from the heat and set it aside.
    1. Heat oil in another skillet and fry the corn tortillas.
    1. Fry the tortillas one at a time. Keep a constant eye on the pan so as not to burn.
    1. Once they become soft, which should only take half a minute, gently fold them to make a taco shell.
    1. Once the tortillas are done frying, remove them from the heat and transfer them to a serving plate. Drain the excess fat with a paper towel.
    1. Cut the avocado in half and remove the pit. Scoop out the flesh carefully.
    1. Mash the avocado gently, so that it is a bit chunky.
    1. Add onion powder, lime, green onions, avocado, salsa, and salt in a mixing bowl. Also add the other half of the chopped onions, tomatoes, and cilantro.
    1. Mix well until combined.
    1. Fill the taco shells with guacamole, shrimp, and sour cream.
    1. Top with Mexican cheese.

    Substitutions

    • Old Bay seasoning — Even though Cajun and Old Bay are both iconic brands, Old Bay pairs better with seafood. Cajun seasoning can also be used, as the two have common ingredients such as the same herbs and spices.

If you do not have Old Bay, you could use the combination of celery salt and paprika, which happens to be one of the main ingredients used in Old Bay. Mix ¼ tsp. celery salt with ¼ tsp. paprika and you’re good to go.

There is finally the matter of Crab Boil, which is paired commonly with seafood. The problem is that Crab Boil works better in boiled seafood, not fried. Still, feel free to give it a chance if you’re short on Old Bay seasoning.
    • Guacamole sauce — This Kylie Jenner shrimp taco recipe is just not complete without a delicious and chunky guacamole sauce. But if you’re one of those who like their guacamole smooth, you might want to try this avocado cream recipe.
    • Cooking oil — Olive oil would work well enough, but for picky ones, there are lots of alternatives. One thing to keep in mind is that every cooking oil has a smoke point, which, upon reaching, the oil simply destabilizes and creates free radicals, which are extremely toxic to your body. Hence, you might want to opt for one with a higher smoke point. Canola oil, coconut oil, and olive oil all have a rather high smoking point, so they should all work well.
    • Salsa — Salsa, one of the most important ingredients in this Kylie Jenner shrimp taco recipe, is extremely popular because it’s delicious, flexible, and cheap. But picking the right kind of salsa can be difficult, so let’s talk about that. Pico de Gallo is your average grocery store salsa. It is uncooked, and it includes the classic ingredients; cilantro, tomatoes, and onions. The most popular one is Salsa Taqueria, which owes its uniqueness to Chile de Arbol, a spice that is actually hotter than a jalapeno. If you’re one of those that like it hot, we bet that you’ll like this one.
    • Sour cream — You can omit the sour cream in this recipe if you want. You could also try something else. Mix sour cream with half-and-half, add a pinch of salt and stir well.
    • Mexican cheese — Kylie Jenner uses cotija, a fancy Mexican cheese, which can be hard to find, not to mention expensive in price. So, you might need a substitute for cotija cheese. Parmesan and Mozzarella will work fine. If they won’t cut it for you, grana Padano, Italian cheese or ricotta Salata, a mild, aged cheese, would do too.

    Variations

    • Vegetarian — You can easily make this recipe vegetarian, by changing the shrimp. You might want to use vegan shrimp, which shouldn’t be hard to find. Vegan King Pawn works great, so feel free to go with that.

    Equipment

    • Mixing bowl.
    • 2 skillets.
    • Measuring spoons and cups.

    Storage

    • Transfer any leftover shrimp taco to an airtight container.
    • Store it in your fridge, where it will last for a few days, and no more than a week.

    Tips

    • The avocados — You should go for fresh avocados. That’s a must. Second, using a ripe avocado will surely result in a tastier sauce. Darker skin, compared to lighter skin, usually means a ripe avocado.
