    Ingredients

    • Canned salmon — 1 can (14 oz.), drained and flaked
    • Saltine crackers — ½ cup, crushed
    • Dijon mustard — 1 tbsp.
    • Mayonnaise — ¼ cup
    • Salt — ½ tsp.
    • Black pepper — ½ tsp.
    • Onion — ¼ cup, finely chopped
    • Red bell peppers — ¼ cup, finely chopped
    • Egg — 1, beaten
    • Garlic powder — ½ tsp.
    • Olive oil — 2 tbsp.

    Instructions

    1. Combine salmon, crackers, bell peppers, and onion in a mixing bowl. Stir well.
    1. In another mixing bowl, combine the egg, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir well.
    1. Combine the two mixtures in a single bowl and stir to combine.
    1. Work the mixture using your hands and form multiple patties about ½-inch thick.
    1. Heat some olive oil in a skillet. Transfer the patties to the skillet.
    1. Cook the patties for 3-4 minutes per side.
    1. Remove the patties from the heat and place them on a plate over paper towels to drain the excess oil.
    1. Serve hot.

    Substitutions

    • Mayonnaise — Mayonnaise plays a crucial role in this salmon patties recipe with crackers, providing a creamy and rich texture and some much-needed moisture. However, Greek yogurt also works great. You can try sour cream as well.
    • Dijon mustard — Salmon patties traditionally include Dijon mustard, but it is not a necessity by any means. You could also use yellow mustard or stone-ground mustard.
    • Cracker crumbs — This salmon patties recipe with crackers is made with cracker crumbs, but you can experiment with bread crumbs. Crushed oats should be considered as well.
    • Olive oil — Olive oil is great for frying, but you could also use vegetable oil or canola oil.

    Variations

    • Zesty — For a bit of acidity and some extra flavor to balance out the ingredients, consider adding a splash of lemon juice. You can also use lime juice for that purpose.
    • Serving — While this salmon patties recipe with crackers makes a great appetizer, it can always improve. Consider serving the patties with tartar sauce or dill sauce. You could also pair them with leafy greens for a healthier option.

    Equipment

    • Measuring cups and spoons
    • Mixing bowls
    • Large skillet
    • Paper towels
    • Plate

    Storage

    • Allow the leftover salmon patties to cool completely.
    • Transfer the leftover patties to an airtight container.
    • Once stored in your container, the leftover salmon patties will last for up to three days.

    Pro Tips

    • Drain — Canned salmon comes with lots of excess liquid, which would be a potential dealbreaker for this salmon patties recipe with crackers. Make sure to drain the canned salmon to avoid ending up with a mess.
    • Adjust — This salmon patties recipe with crackers includes many seasoning ingredients, but feel free to adjust them according to your taste.
