Texas Roadhouse is a famous American restaurant specializing in serving steaks, ribs, filets, pork, chicken, and seafood. Starting as a diner in Clarksville, Indiana, Texas Roadhouse has become a renowned restaurant chain with more than 600 restaurants in the US and globally.

Besides meat varieties, Texas Roadhouse offers several famous side dishes and cocktails. It has gained a loyal customer base for its quality food, generous portions, and entertaining dining experience.

A specialty of the restaurant chain deserving a separate mention is its ranch dressing. It is often served as a dipping sauce for various dishes, including their signature bread rolls, chicken tenders, and other appetizers. This smooth, rich, flavorful sauce complements any meat, vegetable, or salad. It’s the perfect combination of fresh, savory, and tangy with the right amount of spiciness. You can make it with the ingredients in your kitchen. Our Texas Roadhouses' ranch recipe provides variations, substitutes, and options for specific dietary requirements.

    Instructions

    1. Put the mayonnaise, sour cream, and buttermilk in a mixing bowl. With a hand whisk, stir well until you get a homogenous mixture.
    1. Add the fresh parsley, dill, chives, onion and garlic powder, salt, and black pepper to the mixture. Stir together until all the ingredients are well incorporated.
    1. Squeeze the lemon juice into the mixture and stir again.
    1. Transfer the sauce to a jar, and cover. Chill in the refrigerator for at least one hour before serving.
    1. Serve the sauce as a dip, side, or topping. Garnish with chopped chives.

    Substitutions

    • Buttermilk — You can use the same amount of heavy cream if that’s at your disposal. Using heavy cream instead of buttermilk also makes the recipe keto-friendly.

    Variations

    • Make it lighter — You can substitute full-fat varieties of mayonnaise, sour cream, and buttermilk with low or no-fat alternatives. This makes your dressing lighter, but the Texas Roadhouse ranch is famous for its creaminess. This creaminess results from the fat content of the dairy ingredients. You can opt for the low-fat content, but remember this may affect the overall taste.
    • Load with herbs — This recipe contains many herbs already, but there is still room for more to emphasize freshness. You can add a teaspoon of fresh tarragon or thyme. These herbs go well with creamy dressings.
    • Make it vegan — Those who embrace a plant-based diet can replace regular mayonnaise with a vegan option and a plant-based cream substituting sour cream and buttermilk. For this recipe, you need a cup of vegan mayonnaise and cream each. Its neutral taste makes cashew cream the best choice for this recipe.

    Storage

    • You can store the dressing in the refrigerator for up to five days in a tight-lid jar.
    • We don’t recommend freezing the Texas Roadhouse ranch dressing since it can lose its texture and creaminess.

    Pro Tips

    • You can get creative and customize Texas Roadhouse ranch dressing to your liking. You can add a dash of hot sauce, a squeeze of lime juice, or even some minced jalapenos for a spicy twist.
