Substitutions
- Buttermilk — You can use the same amount of heavy cream if that’s at your disposal. Using heavy cream instead of buttermilk also makes the recipe keto-friendly.
Variations
- Make it lighter — You can substitute full-fat varieties of mayonnaise, sour cream, and buttermilk with low or no-fat alternatives. This makes your dressing lighter, but the Texas Roadhouse ranch is famous for its creaminess. This creaminess results from the fat content of the dairy ingredients. You can opt for the low-fat content, but remember this may affect the overall taste.
- Load with herbs — This recipe contains many herbs already, but there is still room for more to emphasize freshness. You can add a teaspoon of fresh tarragon or thyme. These herbs go well with creamy dressings.
- Make it vegan — Those who embrace a plant-based diet can replace regular mayonnaise with a vegan option and a plant-based cream substituting sour cream and buttermilk. For this recipe, you need a cup of vegan mayonnaise and cream each. Its neutral taste makes cashew cream the best choice for this recipe.
