As much as we love trying different and complex recipes that require hours of our time, we also crave comfort food from time to time, and when it comes to that, nothing beats a proper Wendy’s. The combination of fries, burger, and most importantly the frosty, can’t be beaten. Perhaps that’s why Wendy’s frosty recipe was a must-try for me, and it couldn’t have been any better!
Admittedly, this one requires an ice cream machine and a proper two hours of your time, but the results are worth it. Wendy’s frosty recipe makes the best of different flavors like chocolate, vanilla, and Cool Whip topping. This one makes every penny of the ice cream machine well-spent!

Ingredients
- Chocolate milk — 4 cups
- Sweetened condensed milk — ¾ cup (half a can)
- Cool Whip — 4 oz., frozen
Instructions

- Pulse until smooth.
- Transfer the mixture to your ice cream machine and freeze according to the instructions.
- Your frosty should be ready in two hours.
Substitutions
- Chocolate milk — Wendy’s frosty recipe is all about that iconic chocolate taste, and this one provides it enough. That said, we’d strongly recommend combining chocolate milk with cocoa powder to bring your frosty taste to another level. A tablespoon will be enough to get the job done. If you’re short on chocolate milk, you can simply go with a combination of whole milk and cocoa powder, as well. Still, keep in mind that the results won't be the same.
- Cool Whip — Cool Whip provides a fresh air of breath to your dessert, so much so that it’s simply a non-negotiable ingredient. And Wendy’s frosty recipe makes the best of it. However, if Cool Whip is not your cup of tea, feel free to substitute it with whipped cream. Still, note that the texture and flavor won’t be the same.
- Sweetened condensed milk — We tried to make Wendy’s frosty recipe without sweetened condensed milk, and our first choice was evaporated milk. It’s the ideal replacement for condensed milk, and you can substitute the two with a 1/1 ratio. If you’re up for it, you can try coconut milk as well, though keep in mind that the flavor will be considerably different.
Variations
- Vegan — One of my biggest adventures with Wendy’s frosty recipe was to try and make it vegan. Luckily, that couldn’t have been easier! Chocolate non-dairy milk will be needed, so make sure you get some. Both oat milk and almond milk are the ideal candidates for that one. The same goes for Cool Whip as well. Although it’s not vegan, there are many vegan topping alternatives out there, so just pick one and stick with it. Lastly, we’d also recommend using coconut milk too, with a teaspoon of vanilla powder.
Equipment
- Measuring cups
- Blender
- Ice cream machine
Storage
- If there are any unlikely leftovers of the frosty, we wouldn’t recommend storing them in the fridge.
- You can safely freeze your leftover frosty. Simply transfer the leftovers to an airtight container and transfer them to your freezer. Once stored in your freezer, the leftovers will last for up to three months.
- Still, keep in mind that the longer your frosty stays in the freezer, the thicker it will be, resembling ice cream more than a frosty.
Pro Tips
- Serving — As a rule of thumb, Wendy’s frosty recipe is prepared to be consumed with French fries! The mixture of salty and sweet makes a great treat, so go ahead and try it!
- Make ahead — If you find yourself short on time, you can always prepare the batter in advance and store it in your freezer for up to a week. When the time comes, you can simply continue the process.
