What are the hardest days to cook? Those busy weekdays come to mind. If only there was a recipe that takes half an hour of prep time and makes the most of garlic, butter, and our favorite seafood, shrimp! Our shrimp scampi recipe without wine will not only save you precious time, but it is also elegant and classy enough for a special romantic dinner.
Shrimp scampi, an all-time classical dish, usually utilizes white wine’s acidic and strong flavor to add another layer of taste to an already heavenly food. The traditional recipe includes white wine, so if you happen to order shrimp scampi, there is a really good chance that it is cooked with it. However, due to various and understandable reasons, not everyone might be comfortable with wine (or alcohol in general) in their food, or you might just prefer having a glass of it with your food, instead of cooking with it. If this is the case, don’t worry. Our shrimp scampi recipe without wine saves the day with a simple, but effective trick.

Shrimp scampi recipe: FAQs
1. How to substitute wine
Wine not only tastes great, but it also enhances your dishes. It adds great value to many recipes, thanks to its strong, acidic, and flavorful taste. However, if you prefer cooking without wine and are looking for a substitute, you have a wide spectrum of choices. For this recipe, we swapped white wine for chicken broth. You can, however, also opt for vegetable broth. We don’t recommend using beef broth though, as it is generally used as a substitute for red wine due to its stronger flavor. Chicken broth, combined with a few drops of lemon juice will do the job for you. Though, if you want more, you can also add a few drops of white vinegar.
2. How to choose the right shrimp
Jumbo size with 16-20 counts is the ideal way to do this. Although you will still end up with a delicious dish on your hands regardless of the amount or size, the traditional recipe calls for larger and bigger shrimp. You can either buy them frozen or fresh. While frozen shrimp will save you some time as you won’t have to peel and devein them, the latter, on the other hand, is much more delicious.
3. What are the best pairings?
Our shrimp scampi recipe without wine is already delicate enough as a main dish, or as a glorified appetizer. However, it tastes best when you pair it with a great dish. Since this meaty food offers you enough protein, it is only logical to pair it with some carbs. One of the classical, go-to pairings for shrimp scampi is garlic bread. Crusty, pungent, and spicy garlic bread will take your experience to another level. Another option would be pasta.
