We are sure many of us are familiar with the peach cobbler, especially if you’re from the South. Much like banana pudding or potato pie, peach cobbler is just one of the many popular desserts and side dishes there. Unfortunately, you probably won’t have access to fresh peaches for a good portion of the year. Our peach cobbler recipe with canned peaches is not only easy to make, but it just melts in your mouth.

    Instructions

    1. Preheat the oven to 300 degrees.
    1. For the batter, combine sugar, flour, salt, milk, and baking powder in a bowl.
    1. Mix well until there are no visible slumps.
    1. Open the cans, drain the peaches, and rinse them.
    1. Coat the bottom of the baking pan with butter.
    1. Pour some batter into the baking pan, and spread it evenly.
    1. Create the third and final layer by placing the peaches on top of the batter.
    1. Bake for between 45-50 minutes.

    Substitutions

    • Heavy cream — When it comes to replacing milk, you can use heavy cream. Though you should keep in mind that the latter is fatter, thus you might want to dilute it first. Replacing 2 cups of regular milk means that you should go with 1 cup of heavy cream and 1 cup of water.
    • Baking soda — You can use baking soda and baking powder interchangeably in our peach cobbler recipe with canned peaches.

    Variations

    • Gluten-free — For those who prefer their dessert gluten-free, you can swap the all-purpose flour with one of the many gluten-free alternatives, such as brown rice flour, almond flour, or buckwheat flour.
    • Dairy-free — If you’d rather have your peach cobbler dairy-free, you can replace the regular milk with soy milk, almond milk, or coconut milk. When it comes to replacing butter, you can always opt for coconut butter, vegan butter, or even dairy-free yogurt.

    Equipment

    • Measuring cups and spoons.
    • 8 x 8 casserole dish.
    • Baking spray.
    • Oven.

    Storage

    • Your peach cobbler made with canned peaches will likely last for a week when stored in an airtight container in your fridge.

    Tips

    • Too sweet? — We are aware that the amount of sugar used in this peach cobbler recipe might be a tad too much for some, especially considering that canned peaches are already sweet on their own. If that’s the case, feel free to lower the amount of sugar, or even omit it completely.
    • Experiment with toppings — No dessert is complete without tasty toppings, and that includes this peach cobbler recipe. While sprinkling pinches of cinnamon will surely be a delightful touch, served with ice cream is a much better option.
